Walnut River String Band
The Walnut River String Band 2001 in Review
The Walnut River String Band is a band that enjoys entertaining folks with a mix of bluegrass, old time country and western, and American folk. They will make you laugh, smile, and maybe cry, as they play songs that will stir old memories, and with a little luck, create some new, good memories!
2001 was a very exciting year for The Walnut River String Band. The Winfield, Kansas based band performed at over forty gigs, ranging from private parties to some major celebrations. Some of the more memorable 2001 events included performing for a third straight year for the great fans at Stage V of the Walnut Valley Festival, a return engagement to Canton, Kansas for "The Friends of Maxwell" (wildlife preserve) celebration. There was also the "hometown" gig for the "Winfield Main Street Association" that included, for one night only, the addition of guitarist Pete Huttlinger. Pete, former lead guitarist for John Denver was the reigning National Fingerstyle Guitar Champion at the time.
The year of 2001 also included the recording and release of the Walnut River String Band's first CD, "Home Place". "Home Place features some of the band's more requested numbers. Listeners will find a mix of songs from bluegrass to gospel, with a touch of celtic and folk. The recording is a wonderful representation of the eclectic style of acoustic music performed by The Walnut River String Band.
